really long download times

Postby jgirvin » Wed Mar 15, 2017 9:36 am

Hi all,

I have the Basic Edition, all's well...

I'd like to download some trial sets for evaluation purposes, and I'm finding that some links are to downloads that seem to take an inordinate amount of time.... 2 days for 2 GB? the best so far has been like 8 hours for 2GB...

I understand maybe for sites like Sonus Paradisi (Czech republic?), but even the ones on the main HW site are astoundingly slow...

... I have no trouble with other sites, typical fast connection, typical quick internet connection....

Any ideas? thanks very much!

Are you using a download manager?

If you have a PC you can try "Internet Download Manager".

https://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/

This is the best download manager I've seen. Last weekend I used it to download the Portland Rosales Opus 11 sample set. Nine files, each of about 4 GB, were fully downloaded without errors in a matter of hours.

I like iGetter for big files. Good results too.

I understand your concern about really long download times. In the past, I was lucky to download 1GB in a day. Typical download rates were only 50 to 200 kbps. It really depends on the service a given vendor provides, combined with your own Internet Service Provider's download rate. In the past month, I successfully downloaded a 56GB Hauptwerk-compatible sample set, and was up and running, in less than 8 hours (one-third of a day).

Hope this info helps.

Cheers,

Joe
