An interesting organ possibly to sample

PostMon Jul 28, 2014 8:01 pm

I visited the Royal Chapel at Versailles back in 2005, saw the organ from a distance but never knew it was so large. Built by Clicquot in 1711 it has a magnificent sound. I would consider this a worthy example to sample.
In the words of William Leslie Sumner, in his book The Organ, "the conservation of the finest instruments of the past, as regards to their tonal appointments, is a useful task"

Thanks for the information Antoni.
The website of the link explains the current organ is a replica built in 1995 (see the text in German) in the original organ case. Still, an incredible sound.

(Text from another website: "In 1995, a completely new instrument was made by Jean-Loup Boisseau et Bertrand Cattiaux, aiming to reconstruct (again) the creation of Robert Clicquot and the additions of Louis-Alexander and Francois-Henri Clicquot.").

Listen to this demonstration by one of my favourite organists, Michel Chapuis. The video quality is horrible but the sound is OK.

If that organ could be sampled...

I would love to see this organ sampled and would be a buyer for sure, this is by far my favorite French instrument, the thing has an incredible range of sounds. The second I heard this organ I was hooked! :D

There's tons of Michel Chapuis at the Royal Chapel Versailles videos online, here's a few.

The first part is at the Royal Chapel, one of my favorite Couperin pieces.

Audio quality in this one is very good and again demonstrating the great range of this instrument.

I didn't realize that the Boisseau organ was a modern day "duplicate" of the original Cliquot. It is an outstanding replica. I'm wondering why more organs like this aren't built in other churches and buildings. It is impressive that a modern day organ builder can build an organ with such French 1700's sound. Too bad they don't they anything close to it here in the USA.

While rare, it's not unheard of. For example:

And there are others...

Cheers,

Erik,

Check the above post, that was Antoni that said " Too bad they don't they anything close to it here in the USA."
