A new way of playing your LaunchPad Pro!

PostSat Aug 13, 2016 5:29 am

Novation have released a firmware update for the LaunchPad Pro. It enables the LaunchPad Pro to be played like a two-dimensional keyboard. Here is a demo: https://youtu.be/CkNAMELeAe8?t=9.

Seems to require quite a bit of memory - the person playing the instrument's memory that is. " Waiting for a Launchpad model that can be operated by one's feet.

It looks like a useless gimmick to me! Why would anybody want to play music on an
8X8 keypad?

Look how much (no doubt expensive) equipment he appears to need in order to play
a tune on this Pad.

Surely it ought to have 12X12 keys to make playing easier.

I agree, but I can safely bet the Hauptwerk community here has contributed to the Launchpad's initial success. For stop and piston controls, I love mine.

That's a keeper. Your sense (of humor) mirrors mine.

Not to mention a certain learning curve no doubt. Not exactly a portable, take along instrument. OTOH, I've played H/W organs using a laptop with a Roland keyboard. Reaffirms that others have a passion for tech complicated musical devises. Kinda legitimizes Hauptwerk in my mind.

Curious if what we saw above would work with the old, original LaunchPad. Not curious enough to try it tho.

(I can see Ken S having a sly smile for alerting us to this bit of info.)

It's a MIDI controller. He can use at much or as little equipment as needed to play a tune. A single synth module or the laptop would suffice.

That can be done easily enough with existing Launchpad software. Map square buttons to notes, control buttons to transpose. But why bother?

All this begs the question - What is music?

Very good question, especially after John Cage.

I guess, if someone calls it music, it is music.
