What does Anc stand for.

I have HW 4.2.1 . What does Anc. stand for in the Stops, etc. loading. I can see what it does, but don't know the mean of it.

Probably Anches, which is French for reeds

Depending on the application, can it not stand for "Ancillary"? As in a division set apart from the main organ divisions. I have seen this on several American organs. I guess it all depends on what organ it is. If it is French, then I would agree with josq, but if it is English or American in origin, then perhaps Ancillary?
