New Dongle

PostMon Apr 17, 2017 3:21 pm

After the big maintenance job on my HW4 PC, my dongle has gone AWOL.

How much $$$ for a replacement?

Hello Owen,

Please do first try hard to find it, since the Hauptwerk USB key *is* the licence for Hauptwerk and for all samples set licences installed on it, and if found by somebody else then it could be used in full or re-sold unscrupulously for the value of those licences (which can't be removed/disabled from it, without the possessor's cooperation). This is a relevant excerpt from the 'Licensing and editions' section of the user guide:

Important: Please make sure that you do not lose the Hauptwerk USB key since we cannot normally replace it unless you pay for another license. If you break the USB key we will replace it for a small charge once we have received the original USB key back.

If you are concerned about the possibility of losing the Hauptwerk USB key, software or sample sets, we advise insuring them. Specialist musical equipment insurance policies will usually provide cover for audio hardware, software and sample sets.

Here's one other topic discussing it in more depth:

If you still really can't find, and if you hadn't insured it, then please send us an email and we can discuss the circumstances privately. (We are very reasonable.)
Best regards, Martin.

Thanks, Owen.

If you really can't find it, and it wasn't insured, then send us an email privately and we'll see what we can do.

I put the largest cable tie I could find through the little loop in the end of mine, just to make it more obvious - especially to those obliging members of our family to whom it might have looked like a USB memory stick

Exactly what I did on my system when I built it... Mounted a USB socket inside the computer case and plugged the dongle in... After insuring all was well I put the case back on... Case is screwed onto the bottom of the console as well..... With Grandkids around you never know

This in general I think is a good idea. However in Owen"s case it got lost while probably removed from the computer intentionally while it was being repaired/ upgraded. I don't think I would leave it with the computer if it was sent to a repair shop.
