Have people seen these?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elgato-Stream-Deck-Controller-customizable/dp/B06W2KLM3S/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

15 Stop Selection buttons with fully customisable LCD screens on each button. They are designed for another purpose and I haven't tried one, but I imagine they would be perfect for stop control within Hauptwerk - and of course the stop labels would change when you changed sampleset.

And as the image on each LCD can be whatever you like, you could display an exact image of each stop, image-grabbed from the sampleset GUI.

An interesting piece of kit. And while I suppose you could set up the Stream Deck as a dedicated stop controller, I'm more intrigued by the extended functionality it provides.

Stream Deck supports folders, so you could keep macros and hot keys for different sample sets in separate, unique folders, complete with navigational keys. To get to the various folders, you can tap on one of the buttons to which you have attached the folders in the Stream Deck app. Within each different folder, you can have a discrete set of functions for the remaining 14 keys. Pretty neat!

Is there anyone out there who has used one with Hauptwerk?

I haven't got one, but I got excited when it was announced and looked into this last year.

It could certainly be used with HW on Win 10 (although not 7 or earlier) or Mac - it can be set to send any key stroke, so could easily be set to load each of 15 favourite sample sets for example. Or act as buttons for the HW midi recorder etc, etc. Think of it as a 15 key programmable keyboard with software adjustable labels.

However, it doesn't do much more and so, for example, is currently rather limited for stop control. While you could certainly toggle an on-screen stop with it, as an alternative to a touch display, you would still need a stop screen visible since there is no way (short of a serious programming project) to reflect the current status of the stop on the button itself. After all, the stop status is not just whether the button has been pressed or not - stops are engaged/disengaged by piston combinations etc other than the stop knob itself, which the Stream Deck doesn't know about and can't currently be told about.

Physically, it is smaller than one might think and (disappointingly to those of us who would have liked to be able to use it as a cheap source of LCD switches) actually consists of a single screen with 15 transparent buttons in front of it.

Except for the display feature, what does it do that a LaunchPad doesn't do?

Ed,

Unless Elgato comes out with a 64-key Stream Deck, I don’t see it becoming a viable alternative to the Launchpad as a standalone stop controller. But it does look like fun, and has some interesting capabilities that are different from the Novation products:

• It is driven by a separate app and uses drag-and-drop for button assignment.
• Custom-designed icons can be assigned to each LCD display button (all of which are clear).
• Also, you can assign one of its buttons to toggle through 14 (I believe that’s the limit) different folders, each of which can contain a different button configuration or scene.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong here, but that should yield 14 different setups or scenes with a total of 196 different assigned hotkeys on a single 15-button Stream Deck, since you're required to use one button to toggle the folders (14 buttons times 14 folders = 196 different functions).

I see the Novation Launchpad being more customizable and more useful for its intended Hauptwerk purpose. But the Stream Deck may have utility for us – switching between different scenes to choose sample sets, sequencer and audio recording controls, etc., if, in fact, its architecture does allow you to toggle between all those assignable hotkeys.

I use it with both Sibelius and Dorico engraving programs. Very useful.

There is also a 6 button version.

See Adrianw’s comment above about using the Elegato for stop control - rather limited.

You might consider it for a function which would only be controlled through the device and use its hotkey functions with Hauptwerk’s ability to connect switches to computer keyboard input.
