Is it possible to concatenate midi files?

A discussion forum for anything even marginally Hauptwerk-related.

Is it possible to concatenate midi files?

PostThu Jan 10, 2019 5:06 pm

Audacity makes it easy to join audio files end-to-end.

I wanted to concatenate three .mid files made on the same instrument, and it looked at first like I could use the same simple process.

However, at the last step, exporting the new file, I get the message that midi files can be exported only one at a time.

If Audacity can't do it, is there another free/inexpensive program that can?

I would ask is there something in the file that "tells" the system 'this is the end of a file' or 'this is the beginning of another file' ?

Most sequencing software (cakewalk, etc) can do this. There are stand-alone utilities for this as well, a web search will turn them up. Here is one example:

Another techique is to use a MIDI player and recorder and simply play the files you want to concatenate into the recorder.
