Not sure how many non-UK friends can access, but here's a BBC link to Olivier Latry's performance at the BBC Prom on 4th August at the Royal Albert Hall

I was there and it was great!

And the entire performance was without a single sheet of music!

And Buckfast Abbey is about to get a new Hauptwerk organ next week for the Organists' practice room. :D

Any specs on this Hauptwerk organ? # of manuals? Sample set(s)?

Assume Buckfast Abbey water wheel was used to "power" the (old) organ? Renewable energy in former times 8)

It's our "standard" UK-style 3-manual console from the Hoffrichter firm in Germany.
See here for picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/namz9xqa8enxj ... 9.jpg?dl=0
Sample-sets will be Metz and Waltershausen for starters.
NB: This is not for use in the Abbey church - only for practice in the Music Department office.

Initially headphones (AKG K712). Studio monitors + sub maybe later.

FWIW, I recommend Sonarworks with the AKG (and pretty much all other headphones).

Excellent choice. Very un-coloured, esp for organ music. Reasonably comfortable for over-the-ear, during longer sessions.

Is there a comparable AGO version of the "standard" UK-style 3-manual console from Hoffrichter available in the United States? It looks like a very attractive and compact instrument for home use, but I imagine having one shipped from Europe would be quite expensive.

Thanks,
Bill

Depends what you mean by “an AGO version”. What would you want done differently from the picture?
I know of at least two Hoffrichter instruments in the US. There may be more.
If there were sufficient demand, we could consider shipping more than one at a time.

Unfortunately the BBC only makes programmes available for a limited time on its catch-up services, and this one (Prom number 21) dropped off after 28 days. Following their live broadcast they it then appeared again on their Afternoon Concert programme on Radio 3, and this gave another chance to hear it on catch-up, but unfortunately that has expired too, now, so there is no point in me giving you the link.

I don't really understand exactly how the system works, but it is to do with licensing of their content, and obviously other networks aren't interested in buying something if anyone can download it for free. Having said that, I think their catch-up services have limited availability outside the UK, again for licensing reasons.

Personally I find their iPlayer Radio and BBC Sounds apps very useful on my phone for listening to music on the move, and it is possible to download shows, though the downloads disappear in time, again usually 28 days after broadcast but sometimes longer.

As a consolation prize, the BBC are repeating Cameron Carpenter's Bach performances from the 2012 Proms, which will be broadcast at 1600 BST on Sunday 15th and 22nd September, and they will be available on BBC Sounds from those dates.
