BWV 565 like you never heard it before !

PostFri Jan 05, 2007 4:03 pm

On orgelradio.nl:

11 – Toccata und Fuge d-moll BWV 565 (uitgevoerd door twee organisten die beiden aan het eind van de fuga een geïmproviseerde cadens spelen)
David Briggs, Hill Norman & Beard-orgel, Gloucester Cathedral (GB)
Wayne Marshall, Rodgers 960 Classical Organ (digitaal)
[Herald – HAVPCD 246]

Played by two organists who improvise a seemignly never ending cadenza towards the end of the fugue, like you never heard before! You decide whether Bach is turning or dancing in his grave.

You will need Macromedia flashplayer to listen to it; there is a link at the top of the page to download the player, and another link to see the program listing (click on "programma overzicht"), but here it is anyway:

The BWV565 is the last number of the playlist, which is worthwhile to hear in its entirity: many arrangements, including one by Elgar.

This rendering of the famous Toccata and Fugue must have left everyone (217 viewers (and I guess listeners) so far) totally speechless, because no one posted any reactions. Hmmmmm....

I'm speechless because I bit my tongue.
