Everyone,
I live in Los Angeles and you all probably know we were hit by our first hurricane (downgraded to a tropical storm) in 84 years on August 20. Though we had no damage at our house, it rained hard for 24 hours and everything in LA closed down. The following morning I wrote a jazz tune called "After the Storm" which we played at a regular weekly jam session I have been holding in the house. I liked the result enough to convert it to an organ solo. Since I have been sight-reading hundreds of baroque choral preludes lately, I decided to treat this piece in the same way - with a melody and chords that are real jazz but three lower voices that are composed according to baroque voicing conventions. The result is what I think is quite an interesting tone poem.
I just finished recording this on one of my home Hauptwerk systems using a custom version of the FCCLA sample set. You can listen to the recording here:
