A question about the use of mono channels / output

I am currently working with mono channels in my multi-channel manual. The registers are usually loaded in stereo. When I output a stereo sample in the audio mixer to a mono output channel, does Hauptwerk then convert the stereo signal into a mono channel (are the L/R channels added)?

Or are the mono channels only intended to be used if a sample manufacturer (or your own recordings) provides mono samples?

You can load in stereo and output to mono, or load mono if you wish. If I remember correctly, loading stereo samples as mono choose the louder side, but I'll have to look for a source on that.
