Hello!

I wrote about my additional intention to build a virtual house organ with Jiri Zureks Litomysl dry set in some other postings. Now it’s time to report about the result.

At the beginning I was very doubtful, because some members supposed that this house organ would be a little crazy and creates a terrible sound. Furthermore I felt in some tips private motives with regard to the sometimes "funny behaving" of Jiri in this forum. But at the same time my bullhead told me to finish this house organ project.

I subsume:

- The sound is outstanding suggestive if I choose 10 – 20 typical house organ stops and use the Litomysl dry set as a pool of stops. The 24bit wavesound files are realy good. It's like to play in an organ room of the music university or a hospital chapel. For example the reeds Holzkrummhorn and Oboe are very clear. I believe to be inside the organ for tuning.

- Suboptimal are the tremulants (terrible…), the 32’ bombarde and the draw stop noise. The swell stops have lower quality compared to the other divisions.

- The whole organ is rather out of tune. But: I like and enjoy this. It’s a normal fact to play a real organ out of tune. So it seems to be a good method to suggest reality and charm.

Should I record some demos with my Edirol recorder?

Best regards,
Matthias

I have recorded two black and dirty demos with my Edirol recorder. This recorder underlines the bass very much (built-in stereo mic).

Demo 1 - HW2 house organ St. Martin

Demo 2 - HW2 house organ St. Martin

I like this artless sound, which helps to coach the articulation.

Matthias,

Those demos were performed using Jiri Zurik's "dry" Litomysl?

I very much enjoyed the tone of the organ and your bit of
playing....

I am very happy then that I also have Jiri's dry Litomysl
set. However, I cannot now play it, nor any other sample
set for a time. Rebuilding of my "house organ". Will be
another three or four weeks as I await the coming of
the three manual MIDI stack from Classic Organ Works.

Will be such fun when at last I can play again.....

I try to clarify: If you want to play the Litomysl dry set well tuned, you ought to choose any other temperament than the original organ tuning. Only the original organ tuning is out of tune, but in my opinion with outstanding realism.

Jiri Zurek confirmed that the draw stop noise is original (electric "plop" sound). Okay, in this way my new house organ has now an electric stop tracker. Wow!

Furthermore I wrote about the “less quality” of the swell stops. Hm… Otherwise something like a "box effect" may be possible. I don’t know. By all means I could hear a different sound in comparison to Great and Choir. Perhaps there is another acoustic feedback during the recording because of the box.

Overall I advise this DRY set.

Best regards,
Matthias

@ Jim: Perhaps I'll comfort you with a new demo in near future!

But after many tests I suppose the
"reed organ effect"
or Harmonium-Effekt as we call it in the German Hauptwerk forum.

I'm surprised about the "reed organ effect" hearing accredited demos. All dry demos of the following site demonstrate a rather articulate "wah-wah". It's difficult to explain, but sensitive ears can hear this significant sound in every attack phase:

http://www.hauptwerk.cz/Litomysl/Litomy ... hravky.htm

On the other hand my installation generates strictly no reed organ effect with the dry Litomysl set, except for the third swell manual (listen to the second and last impro of the 1. demo!). Listen and compare:

Demo 3

Demo 4

Very cryptical!!!

Matthias
