Enhancement requests for sample set producers

Postby Gert on Fri Jan 30, 2009 1:51 pm

Hi sample set producers,
Two enhancement requests for new sample sets:
1) Pictures tab page
When people visit me and I show them a Hauptwerk organ, I want to show them also pictures of the real Organ (front and church).

I know, in the Hauptwerk menu there is an option ('Organ', 'Show organ information') for this goal.
But in general that option is linked to a webpage. My dedicated Hauptwerk computer is not linked to internet.

My proposal: Add a tab/page (as Console, Stops, Blower) with pictures (e.g. Organ front, Church, Church interior, Organ console).

This is not an idea of myself because of the sample sets of Sygsoft (Leens, Haringe, Krewerd, Oosterwijtwerd) has this feature already.

2) Real time on/off button for Keyboard/pedal sounds and Blower sound.
When I show a sample set to persons, they ask me sometimes: "Can you also switch off the key/pedal sound?"
Then I must answer: "Yes, that is possible, but then I must reload the organ without cache and that spends about 5 to 10 minutes".
For some sample sets (e.g. Oosterwijtwerd) it is possible to switch on/off the sounds real time.

Thanks,
Gert

Hello Gert,

1) Pictures tab page
When people visit me and I show them a Hauptwerk organ, I want to show them also pictures of the real Organ (front and church).

The Sample Set Creator's Guide recommends not doing that in general because it increases the memory required for a sample set (with no real functional benefit, since you can access the information via 'Organ | Show organ information') and also increases the loading time for a sample set.

Hence we recommend using Hauptwerk's native 'Organ | Show organ information' mechanism instead, which is designed to make the information easily available without those disadvantages.

I know, in the Hauptwerk menu there is an option ('Organ', 'Show organ information') for this goal.
But in general that option is linked to a webpage. My dedicated Hauptwerk computer is not linked to internet.

It links to a file (usually HTML or PDF) which should be installed as part of the sample set, locally on your computer. I.e. it might open a web browser, but that shouldn't need to connect to the Internet. If it does, then check that you have the necessary prerequisites (latest version of your web browser, Acrobat reader, etc.).

If an 'organ info' file does embed images or other components linked to external websites (i.e. that do require Internet access), then that's something that should be raised with the sample set producer, since Hauptwerk is designed to be able to work without needing an Internet connection.

You can also use Hauptwerk's voicing facilities to turn the amplitude of the sounds down/up in realtime.
Best regards,
Martin.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for reply.
I forgot the memory usage, indeed then it's better to use the 'Show Organ Information' for this goal.

But I checked the 'Show Organ Information' for some sample sets:
Kampen Vol I: one simple photo, and you can't see the normal front.
Forcalquier, Zwolle, Freiberg: A lot of usefull and nice text but without any photo of Organ Front and Church
Georgenkirche: It doesn't work on my Vista pc without internet.

All the best,
Gert

Are you sure it isn't simply that your web browser is missing a necessary component (e.g. Adobe Flash), which is making it try to connect to the Internet to install that component?
Best regards,
Martin.

This file does not require an Internet connection, it is all self-contained within the folder structure as a .pdf file. Please download Adobe Reader or check your installation of Adobe Reader and you can view the file.

To switch off - or better to say to adjust the output volume of the tracker and the blower noise - there is always the voicing slider to do that in all Sonus Paradisi sample sets. You can do it on-the-fly, without the need to reload the sample set, just look to the voicing page of my sample sets. This simple voicing works also in the basic edition of Hauptwerk (it is set apart from the Hauptwerk native advanced voicing feature).
