We had an Impromptu Hauptwerk TPO Michigan Gathering

PostSat Apr 09, 2011 3:45 pm

Joel from Grand Rapids (Masterworks Wurlitzer, Connoisseur 3/35) and
Steve (keys61) from Royal Oak (Haverhill Extended, PAB Extended and Paramount 3/32)

went to the home of

Pierre (theatre_pierre) in Livonia (Paramount 3/32, Virginia Wurly, Masterworks Wurly, and Haverhill Basic)

to see and hear his portable Hauptwerk Rig.

During discussion we decided that if we were in charge of everything.... everything would be much better. NOT!
Really we just played, listened, drank (ice-tea.... it was an afternoon get together) and had a fun time.

We did have one critic....(see photo below)

The Novation Launchpads look very interesting for controlling Hauptwerk. Are they easy to use?

You will find the novation Launchpad to be very compatible with Hauptwerk. Although Launchpads are designed to work with music software and are programmable, by default they work as a USB MIDI controller. Seventy of the buttons on the surface send note out messages on Channel 1. If you have Hauptwerk Advanced, MIDI out messages from Hauptwerk can relay note information (with velocity) to determine color and brightness for each button. Integrated with the MIDI out system of Hauptwerk, the buttons will constantly reflect the condition of stops (on and off). I also use my six Launchpads for Pistons. I find them to be very reliable, very easy to toggle - I'm very happy having as large an organ spec as the Paramount 332 completely controlled remotely.
By the way, additional launchpads will be recognized by Hauptwerk automatically as Launchpad 1, 2, etc... I do recommend if you use multiples to have a powered USB hub.
In summation, I did not have to program my Launchpads at all. All my programming was accomplished through the MIDI in switch settings of Hauptwerk and the MIDI Out switch settings of Hauptwerk (for lighted display)

Great looking setup !!!!!! Looks like fun to play and nicely portable.
Is that an IKEA table?
How do you keep your launchpads up?

Thanks,
Paul

Excellent. I think I'll get two Launchpads then. Do they work on vista 64 bit by now? As I read in an earlier post that they wouldn't.

Yes. That is an Ikea Galant table/desk with adjustable height chrome legs. The frame on the Ikea table makes it exceptionally sturdy. The six launchpads are mounted on 1/4" pressed board (painted black to match) and attached via velcro. Because the launchpads are so light, the entire unit is very easy to handle and to move.
As for Novation's compatibility with Vista 64, I do not know. I am a completely Mac operation. It's also possible that the Launchpad itself is compatible but automap software or the optional automap pro software (I don't use either) are not compatible.
Good luck. And I made an error. Seventy two (not seventy) of the buttons on each launchpad transmit and receive midi note data on channel 1.

A temporary Hauptwerk v4 development build that adds full Launchpad support is now available as covered in this topic:

Best regards, Martin.
