macOS High Sierra 10.13

PostWed Sep 27, 2017 9:39 am

We now fully support Hauptwerk v4.2.1 on macOS 'High Sierra' 10.13(.0)+.

Please note the following:

- As for other recent macOS/OS X versions, Apple's 'Java for OS X' needs to be installed in order for the Hauptwerk installer to be able to launch. OS X will prompt to that effect automatically if needed and show a link to the necessary download page. This is a direct link to the current version of Apple's Java for OS X: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572

- As with macOS 10.12.2+ versions, there is an issue whereby Hauptwerk's installer may sometimes crash after prompting you to enter your computer password. Addressing that properly is a matter of the highest possible priority for us, but at the moment we need to await a fix from the makers of the installer authoring software that we use for Hauptwerk. For now the work-around is simply to try re-launching the installer and trying again if has crashed. Usually it will work successfully after a small number of attempts, but if not then downloading the file again may help (since the issue appears to be related to macOS's check for the code signature, as a result of the file having been downloaded). Our experience is that it will always work eventually, although some perseverance may be required. An alternative could be to download the Mac version of Hauptwerk using a PC, then transfer it to the Mac using a USB memory stick or writeable DVD, thus avoiding the issue (since macOS itself wouldn't have downloaded the installer). Our apologies for the issue.

- The latest version of the driver for the Hauptwerk USB key might be needed, which is now available on our main downloads page: http://www.downloadhauptwerk.com/osx

- After installing the driver for the Hauptwerk USB key macOS may show the following warning: 'System Extension Blocked: A program tried to load new system extension(s) signed by "SFNT Germany GmbH". If you want to enable these extensions, open Security & Privacy System Preferences.' However, Hauptwerk should work fully even if the warning is simply ignored (without performing any actions to enable the extensions, or any other related actions).

- macOS 10.13 isn't shown as the operating system version in the Hauptwerk log, or mentioned in the version of the Hauptwerk user guide that's installed by Hauptwerk v4.2.1. (However, we do now support it fully.)

- There are some very minor cosmetic issues with the appearance/layout of various screens, including some text on push-buttons that's misaligned slightly. However, none of these have any impact on using Hauptwerk.

- (Some audio/MIDI interface drivers might not yet be compatible with macOS 10.13; please check on their manufacturers' websites.)

We found no functional or performance issues with Hauptwerk itself; everything appears to work properly and perform as well as it did on macOS 'Sierra' 10.12.x.
