not sure if others follow this user on youtube, he has a very nice counterpoint course on his channel, as well as a harmony course and a single 1-hour lesson on fugues, and occasionally he posts his own music as well: I think this fugue on a Miley Cyrus' song theme (!) is very well done, wonder how it would sound on organ

I also think that given that the main theme is so easily identifiable (especially for the younger crowd that listens to this music all the time) it is easier from a teaching perspective to show how fugues work and help students to listen for when the theme comes in, if there are inversions and so on...

Yes, I agree. And it would be interesting to hear it arranged out for a quartet of different instruments...say, saxes for example. Would be good in a school concert context.
