Suggestions: "Hanon" for the pedalboard

PostMon May 18, 2015 11:59 am

I am eagerly awaiting my new pedalboard. Since it has been years, I'd like to have a good set of exercises, like the famed Hanon for the keyboards, to support my practice. Any suggestions?

While the new editions are very expensive, you can't go wrong with a used edition of the Harold Gleason Method of Organ Playing. Good exercises in graded order for manuals, pedals, and then both together, with a selection of pieces without and with pedal parts.

I've seen reports of inexpensive copies on Ebay, or perhaps your local library has a copy you can check out for free.

THe book by David Johnson has pages and pages of excellent pedal exercises. Here is a link to the book on Amazon.

Thanks for the suggestions! You weren't kidding about the Gleason being expensive :-( I'll get the cheaper one and look for a reasonable used copy of Gleason.

I would propose:

Schneider, Johann Julius (1805-1885)
Pedal Studies op. 48
