That is why I fully advocate my practice back-wards method. I found myself in the same situation when a freshman in University and that is when I determined I would start learning things from the last line or page or whatever unit was small enough to let me get a handle on things. THEN, when I found myself in "full e. Power Biggs mode" and wanted to keep to flying along, I was flying along through stuff I had already learned well.

Exactly so!

I think it still is. It just may not have been intended to be. The toccata appears less Bach-like to my non-educated ears but the fugue pedal part contains some familiar Bach "ticks" that crop up in other organ pieces of his.

And it's still fantastic music either way. How many works out there identify themselves so universally with just the opening beat? :)

One question I've got to ask being new round here. What is "full e. Power Biggs mode"? I'm completely stumped with that one!

Sorry, he was a famous organist from days gone by. I have a much-played recording of BWV 565 played by him on an LP somewhere.

Ah, thanks! I didn't realise it was a name. My only guess had been "electric power Biggs mode" which is quite comical in hindsight!

Yes, it gives performances a certain "mass" and relies on the elusive quantum Electrodynamics properties of Biggs Hosons recently discovered using the Large Hadron Collider. :)
