Theatre Sleigh Ride how is it played?

PostTue Dec 20, 2011 2:08 pm

Over the last few weeks I have listened to lots of different versions of Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson and I was wondering how the organist manages to keep the sleigh bells rhythm going, does anyone know?

I did it last year for a recital. The secret: an extra set of hands

EDIT: I did it as a 4-handed arrangement with my organ professor in case I wasn't totally clear.

A friend of mine made a recording. I could perhaps upload it to my site.

Not a Theatre organ performance- quite the opposite type of instrument, in fact-, but this is an arrangement of Sleigh Ride by Thomas Trotter:

No sleigh bells but a trumpeter cracking the whip instead.

The arrangement is published by Banks Music

I'm rather hopeful that his arrangement of Leroy Anderson's 'Typewriter' might also be published- great fun.

In case anyone is interested, I have made transcriptions of several Leroy Anderson tunes for performance by organ and percussion. I have done the following tunes so far:

The Typewriter
The Syncopated Clock
Sandpaper Ballet
Forgotten Dreams (organ only, no percussion)
Plink, Plank, Plunk
Song of the Bells

I perform these from time to time when I have a percussionist available to feature.

I am actually planning to perform a few of these this coming year and if I do I will post some recordings.
