What happened to Oberwerk?

PostFri Sep 20, 2013 7:32 pm

I'm sure I have missed something along the way, but it seems like all traces of Oberwerk have been removed from the store and elsewhere on the site. Enlighten me please as to where it went.

Thanks,
Tom

Hello Tom,

Oberwerk was discontinued last year and is no longer available.

Oberwerk was a custom organ design application from MDA. It made it a bit easier to create new organ definitions than creating new ODFs by hand.

Oberwerk wasn't something that we created, rather we resold it on behalf of its developer. However it had become outdated and was not up to par with the latest features that the CODM offers. No further developments were planned for it by its developer, due to these reasons we decided that it was time to discontinue the program.

I have read somewhere that Silver Octopus, and possibly others, plans to eventually
offer something similar, that is, a large number of samples you can mix and match
to create a truly custom organ of almost any specification, or add to an existing organ,
by using the CODM.

Samples to be used in this way would certainly have to be dry samples, there would
be no way to match the reverberation characteristics of wet samples from different
locations. This implies hardware or software reverberation solutions, which one still
might be hoping for in Hauptwerk 5.0, someday.
