Access ranks, which do not follow naming convention

PostSat Oct 24, 2015 6:14 am

Hello,

Is there a trick how ranks, which do not follow the HW naming convention can be accessed in a CODM? The Velesovo sample set uses WAV files with an additional dash, e.g. 036-C-.wav instead of 036-C.wav.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Chris

Hello Chris,

Samples are required to follow the specified naming scheme in order to be compatible with the CODM. There's no easy way around that, I'm afraid. The sample set creator's guide strongly recommends that sample set producers follow the naming scheme in order to have compatibility, but at the end of the day it's the sample set producer's choice.

The only way to would be to copy and repackage the samples in a separate installation package of your own (using a package ID in your allocated range), renaming them appropriately. If you wanted to make the files/ODF available publicly then you'd also need to make sure that the sample set producer was happy to allow that, and package the final result in the component installer format, so that people could install them all properly.

P.S. If you're planning to distribute the ODF publicly, an alternative might be to rename the files in their original folders temporarily (just during your ODF development process), then edit the final compiled 'full-format' ODF manually to set the names back to the 'real' names.

This is exactly what I am going to do. I was hoping that there is a smarter solution.

Using something like this might make the exercise a bit "smarter".

Graham,

thank you very much for your advice. Unfortunately this does not solve the problem.

If you rename the files in their original place, the original sample set won't find them any more. One option is to copy the files to a different place and rename according to the naming convention. Then they could be packed into the installation package. However, as Martin stressed, most sample set producers do not like this option.

The only way of addressing the problem is the option Martin described: first copy all files to a temporary folder and rename them according to the naming convention. Before public release of the sample set the ODF has to be edited: all links have to be changed to their original places.

Best, Chris
