CODM Stoplist...need crescendo staging advice

PostFri Apr 29, 2016 11:18 am

I have finalized the stoplist of my CODM organ. It comprises 132 ranks across 9 divisions, plsyrf five keyboards plus pedal. I still have some tweaking to do with expression and tremulants...I am having a hard time getting the expression boxes as quiet as I would like.

Anyways, I welcome advice on how to lay out the 31 stage master crescendo! Is there a general school of thought on this topic? I don't have access to a 'real' organ with crescendo functionality, so I'm hoping to get an education in the topic. Is there anything specifically NOT to include in the crescendo (probably things like the percussive toys, but anything else?)

All guidance gratefully appreciated.

I'm at a loss as what to call the fifth manual...Bombarde, possibly, as it has the Imperial Trumpets, and percussives. It is unenclosed:

Chrysoglott
Glockenspiel
Chimes
Zimbelstern
Harp
Trumpet en Chamade 8'
Imperial Trumpet 32'
Imperial Trumpet 16'
Imperial Trumpet 8'
Imperial Trumpet 4'

These trumpet ranks are loaded twice and are intended to be routed to two separate sets of outputs on opposite side of the eventual home of the instrument (my large garage). Couplers allow either side, or both simultaneously, to be played on any manual. The reeds of the Great can be played on the Choir or Swell, in addition to all of the standard unison, octave, and suboctave couplers.

well.
in my theatre pipe organs i have a creshendo that builds up from the owest volume to the loudest that means:
at stage 1 add the lowest volume ranks you can find in your organ but only 1 rank from every division that has the lowest volume on stage 2 add 4 more ranks and so on but on stage 31 to 25:
on stage 25Full organ exept all octave and suboctave couplers. stage 26 add the suboctave couplers. stage 27 add the octave couplers. stage 28 add the imperial trumpet 32 stage 29 add imperial trumpet 16 stage 30 add trumpet en chamade 8 and Imperial trumpet 8 and finely stage 31 add the imperial trumpet 4!
From 1 to 25: as i said above begin with the lowest volume ranks and add more and more ranks but just find out what the next volume is from stage 21 to 25 couple the manuals more and more together untill you have al 5 manuals at 1 and then continue as i said above from 25 to 31.
I think it is evertime importand to add the octaving ranks because you need more and more briliance in your organ tone. thats just all my opinion
