Backward Compatibility with HW3

PostTue Jul 19, 2011 5:47 am

Hi,

I'm in the middle of helping a friend get a CODM organ ready for testing, but I'm using HW4 and he is using HW3, is the ODF created by HW4 backward compatible with HW3 or will I need to create a completely new CODM XML file and install HW3 on a separate computer in order to get a HW3 ODF ready for him.

Kind regards,

Hello Graham,

Any files saved by Hauptwerk v4 will be in v4 format, and won't work in v3.

Hence you would need to use Hauptwerk v3 (running on a separate computer/partition from v4, since the two can't exist on a single operating system partition) if you wanted to create any organ definitions (CODM or full-format) that Hauptwerk v3 would be able to read.

(Please note also that, strictly speaking, we only support v3 for customers who bought a licence for it less than 12 months ago, so if that doesn't apply to him then he'll need to upgrade to v4 if he needs any support from us, or with this.)
Best regards, Martin.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the confirmation :)

I'll set up a HW3 installation so that he can test things for now, and eventually upgrade to HW4 when he can.

All the best,

But it is still possible to generate a HW 3.2 ODF with the CODM in HW 4?

As Martin wrote:

Therefore, no that is not possible. You need to use Hauptwerk 3 to create a version 3 compatible CODM file.
