Can you integrate a different keyboard with CMK-2?

PostWed May 18, 2016 2:18 pm

Howdy all. I was curious if some other (less expensive) type of midi keyboard could be integrated with my CMK-2 two keyboard stack? I am not sure if the accompanying electronics would make it just as pricey, etc.

Just wondering, I would really LIKE a 3 keyboard stack, but funds just don't allow for another CMK!

Thanks,
~Scott

The simple answer is yes. The new keyboard would connect through its own encoder which is fine. I'm not sure what encoder would be the best choice for implementing just one keyboard. I'd start with Midi Boutique or one of the similar outfits that offer a single keyboard encoder at a good price. My advice would be to look for a used Allen or Rodgers keyboard that still has the piston rails with pistons.

Thanks, someone told me in the past (I don't remember who) that CMK technology did not play well with others. Perhaps I misunderstood (a perpetual problem with me), but that was where the notion came from.

Thanks,

My HW setup v. 2 used a HUB with CMK-3 + Yamaha NP 11 (with M-Audio USB Midisport Uno MIDI Interface). They worked perfectly.

CMK-2 have only MIDI connectors CMK-3 have USB & MIDI. So the keyboard to be integrated should have MIDI connectors to wire to the CMK-2 or if it only has USB MIDI, go directly to the computer or a POWERED HUB.
