Converting a Crane organ to Hauptwerk

PostSat May 21, 2016 3:33 am

I have a 1980s Crane classical organ (build in Liverpool, 2 manual and pedalboard). It plays but the sounds are ropey and I want something better. I would like to convert the organ to play Hauptwerk via my Macbook but don't really know how to go about it. The organ is not MIDI compatible but I do not know how difficult it would be to convert it so it is. I basically want to use the MIDI converted organ as a controller to play the Hauptwerk sounds! Any advice gratefully received.

Hi,

Can't find much about Crane organs on the internet. But in general, if the manuals and pedal board have switches on them it is possible to remove the original electronics and replace them with new MIDI electronics. It also seems that the more you know, the less it costs.

Do you have pictures of the inside of the organ?

I agree, but thought of a slight modification, that being: It also seems that the more you get to know, the more you want and thus it does cost. At least that's been the case with me.

Could be a cleaned up version of Fry's motto: "If you know what you are doing you get what you pay for,
If you don't you get what you deserve." :)
