pedalboard reed switch failure

PostThu Oct 06, 2016 9:45 am

Has anyone ever experienced reed switch failure in your pedalboard? Does it happen often, that they break? Are they easy to replace? How important is it to get encapsulated reed switches?

Are they easy to replace? depends on if they are mounted on a pcb or not.
How important is it to get encapsulated reed switches? are there any other kinds??

There are some new plastic encapsulated reed switches that may be more difficult to break but in general they do not go bad if not disturbed

Alignment or changes in alignment are more often a bigger issue.

We used standard reed switches in the past. Due to failures (mainly in the shipping process) we switched to encapsulated/vibration resistant reeds. The encapsulated have been so reliable ours come with a lifetime warrantee.

If my pedalboard does not have encapsulated reed switches, and they get damaged in shipping, are they easy to replace? Also, how hard is it to find reed switches?

The reed switches will be soldered in or have some sort of a circuit board with a plug. If you are buying the pedalboard new I am sure your supplier will use a product they are confident in. If something were to happen I would assume any part broken in shipping can be replaced. Make sure they offer some sort of warranty or have a good exchange policy.
