Fatar keyboards vs the real thing?

PostSun Mar 05, 2017 4:51 pm

How good are Fatars compared to real wood pipe organ keboards? I have the opportunity to purchase a good set of three Fatar "TP/6 TP/60" (that's what's on the sticker) keyboards from 2006 for only $100 each. They have diode matrix connections and wood core keys. Is this a no brainer? Alternatively, should I even consider real wood pipe organ keyboards?

No, I wouldn't get them if I were you. If they are $100 a piece just let me know where they are and I'LL take care of them FOR you!!!

Those are excellent if they are in good condition, and the price is great! I have been looking for a deal like that for years! They are hard to find, at least for me.

Hello Dan, Scott is right¡ Besides, in regard to organ keyboards, there are different "real things", according to builders: from soft and spongy to responsive and hard. Fatar 60 are very good, provided they are in good shape and the touch and contact mechanisms are ok.

@DanF: Beware: the TP/6LP and the TP/60L are in very different price brackets.
TP/6LP is all plastic. TP/60L has a metal frame and plastic keys.
(Check the website page that Luis mentioned.)
But both use exactly the same bubble-contact strips under the keys.

I think my Casio VZ1s use bubble contacts. That synthesiser appeared in 1988, so I've been using them as controller keyboards for twenty nine years! I keep expecting one of the contacts to give up, but all remain functional at present. Perhaps it helps that my first instrument is the piano, so I instinctively adapt to the lighter touch of the VZ1, and am unlikely to damage them mechanically.
