Right on, Graham. HW translates the incoming info between a keyboard and a piston contact closure.
You can split those inputs on the Midi Hardware scanners to do different functions. For instance, part of the input connections can be on one MIDI channel and the rest on another if that is needed. Quite flexible and the boards are very small.
Available are ribbon cable "tails" with an IDE 16 pin connector on one end in case you don't want to make them up yourself.
