Keycheek spacing above naturals

PostSat Oct 31, 2009 1:00 pm

Is there any standard (AGO or RCO) distance for the keycheeks above the natural keys?

After far too long, I'm about ready to mount my first keyboard in its frame. My 1950's Wurlitzer has the keycheek top about even with the top of the naturals, and that just doesn't seem right. Some pictures seem to show them as high as the tops of the sharps. My memory of "my" Skinner is about 1/8 inch above, but it's been too long to be sure. I didn't see it in the AGO console specs.

Is there a standard, or is it builder preference? And what is the normal range?

Thanks for your help, from a new member of the forum.

I don't think this dimension is specified anywhere, but most of the consoles or keyboard stacks that I've encountered seem to have it about 1/16" to 1/8" above the naturals. I guess it's a case of what *looks* right...

For a time in the past, Brett Milan had a pipe organ builder who fabricated
beautiful consoles and sub-components for use with the Classic Organ keyboards
and pedal boards. Brett had him build some beautiful, finished key cheeks
for my stack of the three of Classic's CMK2 Pro keyboards. The top
of the keycheek surface is just a bit less than 1/16th inch above tht top
surface of the white keys adjacent. Must be a very good height, appears very
nice.
