Have you tried using Forstner bits? They are designed to drill large, smooth holes. Just make sure you have a good backing board that you can drill into.

You are doing an outstanding job on a difficult task. Good luck!

Thanks John & bmenozzi, I appreciate your tips.

The Solo keyslip is ready to accept pistons, which I expect to arrive from Syndyne in about a week. They will be wired up to a midi encoder. The other manuals need to have the CMK keyslips removed and modified. I have checked one out and it will be quite easy to remove the square buttons and solder wires from the syndyne pistons directly to the existing board. This will be good as I can still use the easy piston configuration offered by the CMK keyboards. I will have to use an angle grinder to cut out parts of the metal slip so it can be used as a mount for the wooden keyslips. I will post some photo's of the CMK mods when I get to it.

Xmas arrived a little late but I have received the SDK's from Syndyne. :D All of the pistons have arrived with this shipment and I will post details of the CMK keyslip modifications when I complete them.

I am still waiting for the tilting tablet assembly from OSI for mounting on the nameboard, however, I have enough wiring to last a lifetime!!

More pictures to come as I progress......

Very nice.

When i am right, you are using SDK Solenoid Draw Knob which will 'pull out' if you push a preset-button (if you are using preset buttons).

Hi Taco,

Yes, these are Syndyne Solenoid Drawknobs, and will be driven by Midi Gadget Boutique solenoid driver boards. If it all works :?: they should move as commanded by Hauptwerk's combination action.

A LITTLE coveting is warranted after seeing those stop jambs, right? :D

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's Stop Jambs (unless they're really nice!).

I think that means you're fine in this case! :P

Hi All,

I have modified the CMK keyslips to accept the Syndyne pistons. It was a relatively simple process, and the syndyne pistons look and feel much better than the original buttons.

Pleasing result!!

I am pretty happy with how things are going. I have a HUGE amount of wiring for the drawknobs, and will post pictures when completed.

I am still waiting for delivery of the tilting tablet assembly from OSI for mounting into the nameboard. That will all but complete the controls (except foot pistons). I still need to make a bench, and make the knee panel for the console.... lots more to do.

I asked Syndyne to sent me one drawknob (complete) as an example, but they don't reply at my email.
They normally only deliver to organ builders, maybe that's the problem.

Did you buy them via an organ builder?

Send Sendyne a set of your pictures to prove you are an organ builder! You Are!

Hi Taco,

I purchased drawknobs and pistons directly from Syndyne, and although I am building an organ, I am NOT an organ builder. I found them to be very helpful and would recommend Syndyne to anyone (drawknobs are excellent, pistons are o.k.) doing a project like this. I doubt whether they would hand out free samples though!

I have also ordered a tilting tablet assembly from Organ Supply Industries, also very good to deal with, and no problem that I am not an ‘organ builder’.

@Taco Otherwise you can try Kimber Allen in England (http://www.kimberallen.8m.net/custom3.html), they also sell solenoid stops (I bought about 90 (secondhand) of them via Johannus Orgelbouw)

@Coupler, your console looks very good! very nice with the solonoid stops. When I'm finished with mine, I will post some pictures.

Hi All,

Here are a few photos of the stop jamb wiring. My soldering skills have increased a little!! I know it looks a little untidy but IT WORKS :!:

Image
Coil On/Off wired up on right jamb

Midi Gadget Boutique boards. 2xMDEC128br-P(SAM) and 2xMCK64x with SM boards

Wiring complete and installed in console

Image
A mess, but it works!!!!

I have tested the on/off operation of all drawknobs using MidiMedic by classic organworks. This is a great utility and available free. I mapped the Metz stops to the drawknobs (using similar stops if not the same) and it is brilliant to see those drawknobs move. I remember reading somwhere here that folks were concerned that the knobs would move with a ripple effect if using the software combination action. I can assure everyone this is NOT the case. All stops come on or off together, as commanded by the hauptwerk combination system.

I am STILL waiting for OSI to ship the tilting tablet assembly for the nameboard. Not to worry as the sample set has not been released yet  (I hope I have enough cash left over to buy it)

Cheers,
Cheers,

David Russell
