That's impressive! :) I hope I people doesn't get sick of the relatively frequent updates. :)

BTW, i need some input here. What to do in the large opening between the openings where the pipes are:

I'm considering a door hinged at the top. In the area behind I'll place the amplifier and stuff like that. But I also have some small pipes lying around; the only drawback is that they're pretty banged up and it will be a big job fixing them up.
Something that reflects the rest of the console, but decorative at the same time.

Any ideas?

There is available black grill cloth which you can use to "hide" speakers if so desired. Likewise, it doesn't have to be black. :o

Quite an interesting progress, Vidar! 8)

As for the center part, I would suggest a wooden panel, not aligned to the pipes, but a bit behind them - so as to highlight the pipes over the rest of the upper side of the console.

There won't be very frequent updates since there's little to show, even though I've done a lot of work.
Unless you guys enjoys watching paint dry... :P

Anybody know the best way to polish an organ pipe to a high shine? I am reluctant to whip out the buffing wheel and polishing paste; the metal in the pipes are reaaaaally "bendy". :)

BTW Matt: When the console is finished, the cockpit is next! :) It looks like I'm going to live in this house for many, many years to come - and I think it is wise of me to get the cockpit up and running before I find a new wife... :P

There is a product called "Never Dull". A metal polish that is impregnated in cotton wadding. Works pretty well on alot of things, easy to use, and does not require a buffing wheel. I don't know if it is available where you live, though. Pipes get dull over time, so they'll only look really nice and shiny for the first few years....after that...

Yep, but sadly only in my head. :) The time before Christmas is always extremely hectic at work, so the little energy I got left was spent on the organ bench or flat out in the recliner playing XBOX or watching movies.

BUT - it is time to kick my lazy butt out of the chair (the company name La-Z-Boy is one of the best names ever! I do not own one though - my recliner is made by Hjellegjerde / Fjords of Norway) and make some more noise in the workshop.

I had a little dream - placing trumpette en chamade dummies on the thing. But that won't work, so I did the next best thing. I bought a trumpet, and given time and the neighbors patience, I'll just play the trumpette en chamade parts the old way. :) I actually bought a flute too. That recording feature will come in handy, I'll tell you that! :) Not to mention "certain" new functions in HW4...

Sorry to those waiting for more insanity on my website - I'll let you simmer a little longer before I give you the next "drops of wisdom"... :P

Y'all simmered tender yet? :)

I've gotten a few emails asking about the console project. I haven't done anything for a long time now. It is winter, the weather has been "undecided" (snow - rain - snow - ice, ice, ice...) and the workshop is cold.

BUT - I am going to continue work on the console! In the meantime, here's a little write-up on my current setup:
