New PC set up

PostMon Sep 29, 2014 4:44 pm

Looking to move organ setup to a new pc. Wanted to inquire as to advantages/disadvantages of installing Hauptwerk on solid state drive. System will have a 256 gig sdd and a 1tb secondary drive, min of Intel i5 processor and 16gig ram. Planning to install Hauptwerk basic and Paramount 320 on ssd unless it is unadvisable or better to install on the secondary drive. Looking for advice-Thanks.

If you use the forum search facility I think you will find a lot of information.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Yes -- SSDs will usually allow organs to load much faster, but the won't affect the performance (polyphony/latency) once an organ is actually loaded.

When installing Hauptwerk (with the 'custom' installation option) you might want to choose to put everything on the SSD except for the 'sample sets and components' folder, which is the largest but has minimal impact on normal loading times. The 'Installation: background information: Planning installation locations' section in the Hauptwerk user guide (pages 18-19 in the current v4.1.1 version) covers that.

The 'Performance tuning' section in the guide (pages 200-216) also has general background information on computer hardware components and their impact on performance. The guide can be found on-line here, in case you don't already have it: https://www.hauptwerk.com/support/documentation/

As Keith mentioned, searching the forum for 'SSD' or similar will probably find lots of more-detailed information too.
Best regards, Martin.
