HW 4.1.1 and Mac Wired Memory

PostSat Dec 13, 2014 9:32 pm

This issue is addressed to other Mac and OS X Mavericks users.

Since upgrading to HW 4.1.1, I've noticed that HW loads into "wired memory" rather than "app memory." :|

I thought wired memory was reserved for the system. All the other software that I use loads into app memory.

Everything is working as it should: I'm simply curious. :?:

Any comments or observations from my Mac brethren?

Cheers, Terry

Hello Terry,

[Topic moved here.]

Yes -- it's correct that Hauptwerk's memory will appear within the 'wired' total. That simply means that the operating system guarantees to keep it in physical memory; ensuring that audio glitches due to paging can't occur.

Wired memory isn't for the exclusive use of the operating system. It's rare for applications to use it, but necessary in order to achieve the real-time performance and high memory usage that Hauptwerk needs.
Best regards, Martin.

Thanks for the explanation, Martin. Anything that contributes to rock solid performance is fine by me!

Cheers, Terry
