page down on inactive monitor

PostTue Aug 18, 2015 10:36 pm

I have a touchscreen monitor for changing stops and a second (non-touch) monitor that I use for viewing .pdf format music. I'd like to use the page down key on my keyboard to go to the next page, but because my hauptwerk stop view is the "active window", this doesn't work.

Is there a way to assign keys to control a pdf reader even when another window is the active one?

Have a look at MusicReader to see if that solves your problem.
I've been using it for years and it works absolutely fine for me!

Hello,
Do you have a console with stop switches or with touch screens? In the second case, does MusicReader work correctly when it isn't the active window? Don't you have the problem described by b_physics_guy?

Hi Ludo
My console has switches, but that is not how I operate Music Reader.
You can obtain a number of switches from Music Reader to operate the software.
I have just looked at their web page and there are many more options for the operation than the last time I visited (http://www.musicreader.net/)
I have found the best one for me is a tongue operated switch working via Bluetooth.
Being a rather unskilled player I found trying to operate a foot switch at the same time as playing the pedals got me into all sorts of contortions (and bad notes).
Do have a look at their website - as I said I have been using Music Reader for quite a few years and it is, in my opinion, perfect for the job.

Thanks Bri for your response. On Music Reader's site we can read the following information:
With MusicReader you can turn pages in several ways:
1. Using onscreen navigation buttons
2. By pressing a special foot pedal
3. Using arrow or page up/down keys of your keyboard or hotkey buttons on your laptop
4. By pressing on the sheet music by finger or pen (device dependent)
5. Use the page turn timer for automatic page turns

I don't see anything concerning a Midi command. My plan is to turn pages from thumb and toe pistons of a console with 2 touch screens and a 3th one for the PDF files on the same computer. I am still wondering if this possible...

Hi Ludo,
No, I'm not sure about MIDI messages, but I suggest you contact them.
I had quite a bit of contact (I'm ashamed to say I cannot remember his name (? Leone)) with him some time ago and found him extremely helpful.

We do have an enhancement request logged for Hauptwerk to have native functionality to send key-strokes to external PDF/music reader applications. I've added these notes to that.
Best regards, Martin.

I just posted the method I use on a different thread, which some may find useful:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14561
It also works with just one monitor, as long as you remember to make the reader the active window after you finish.
