Suggestions for external Thunderbolt RAID for my Mac?

PostTue May 10, 2016 9:30 pm

I want to add a RAID 0 pair of SSDs to my mac to speed up load times. I need the enclosure to be small and quite.

Does anyone have experience with Akitio? These three look interesting:

http://www.amazon.com/Palm-Raid-512GB-S ... t+raid+ssd

Other suggestions? Max budget is $600-700 including the drives

I took the plunge and got the Aikito ThunderQuad2 and installed a pair of Samsung 850 256GB SSDs. Total cost < $500. It was trivial to set up in RAID 0 on my Mac once I found these instructions:

I reinstalled HW using the same installed, choose custom, and moved my internal files dir to a the new drive. The install was VERY slow, so I let it run overnight, but the next AM everything was perfect. 12 minutes to load Goerlitz surround was now 45-50 seconds!!!
