Is RAM different ?

PostThu Feb 04, 2010 9:46 pm

I am about to upgrade my Mac Pro dual quad core from 16 gigs to 32 gigs. I was shopping around for the best price and wondered if there is any real difference in RAM other than speed and gigs. Is there one brand you should stay away from ? Mac always charges the most so I assume its pretty good, but I have RAM in my computer now that has a Samsung Mac Pro 800 ( 20448/28027937) label on them. These have worked for over a year. I would hate to put unreliable RAM in my computer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I upgraded my Imac using Crucial memory with no problems.

Their website has a selector system which makes it easy to find out what is available.

Yes, RAM strips are different! You MUST select only
RAM which is clearly labeled that it is for the Mac Pro.
As Ian suggests, Crucial supplies this type.

Yes, another satisfied Crucial customer here - comes with nice chunky heatsinks.
