Does anyone have experience or heard much about these for our HW setups?

Thanks

I would be interested to know if anybody tries them to know what they think. At 1,500 USD, I doubt if I will be trying them soon. In my experience I have not found any significant improvement in sound in headphones after I reach the 100 - 120 USD pirce range. I once tried a $400 set of AKG earphones and could not hear any significant improvement over my $100 BOSE earphones. But maybe my ears are getting too old to hear the difference.

I can't say that I have used those headphones, however, I use a lot of AKG headphones and I really like them.

I can say, too, that with any high-end headphone, make sure you use a high quality DAC and a good headphone amp, otherwise, you've wasted your money buying expensive headphones.

There are lots and lots of headphone amps and DACs on the market. Some of my favorite DAC's are from PeachTree Audio, AudioQuest, and Rega. (This is all completely subjective, though.)

I had the K-701 and the K-712 before and tested the K-812 (the open pendant to the K-872) a while, the difference was so great for me that I kept it and sold the K-712. The advantage of my preferred music store: you can test the gear for four weeks and send it back without a cause.
The headphone is a great benefit for me, especially to play in the evening, when my little daughter is sleeping (recently I played and wondered if my monitors are off :D ), also for the development of my own sampleset. The fine differences in the audio material the AKG offers is absolutely stunning.
Best regards
Thomas
