Multi channel amp

PostThu Oct 31, 2019 1:32 pm

I have a 7 year old Emotiva 7 channel amp and it seems to be shorting out when I connect more than four speakers. Ive contacted Emotiva and may buy their current 7 channel model the A700. Anyone can recommend this one or another? Less wattage per channel (80) than the one I have at 125 watts/channel. I'm assuming even 80 would be plenty for a home or small performance venue.

Multi channel amp

My Emotiva 7 channel amp is shorting when I connect more than four speakers. Not sure why. Called Emotiva for repair but I may just trade this in for a current model, the A700. Anyone recommend this? Any other multi channel amp recommended for Hauptwerk in home. Wondering if Emotiva 80 watts/channel is good for home application or small performance venue. I assume so but am not too technically oriented.

If the amp is really "shorted", it won't "repair" itself (play at all). Is the problem consistent on all of the channels? That is, are only certain of the channels involved? Do the 4 channels that produce sound, sound okay? Are they distorted or softer than normal? Have you tried switching the speaker connections? Are you certain all of the speakers are ok, that they do "play"? Are there any loose connections either on the input or the output? If it can only drive 4 spkrs at a time, it could be an internal power supply component issue.

It sounds like it may have a power supply issue. Regarding a new unit, 80w per channel is plenty for home use.

If you do decide to replace it, I may be interested in the old one.

Thanks,
