Multi-channel and powered speakers

PostSun Dec 05, 2010 8:42 pm

Here's what I believe should be an easy question (this particular forum certainly gets some strong responses). If I use powered-speakers, do I just feed them directly from a multi-channel audio interface (I'm getting an M-Audio Firewire 410)?

For now, I plan to use traditional full-range monitors (good stuff I already have, Spendor and B&W). That's 4 speakers, and I might add a sub. I'm just trying to make the best-sounding practice instrument I can, not trying to fill Notre Dame. But I guess this means I need a multi-channel amp, right? The multi-channel stuff confuses me as I'm completely a 2-channel guy when it comes to my stereo system.

The short answer is "yes" you go directly from each output of the m-audio to a corresponding powered speaker.
