Installer User Interface Mode Not Supported

PostTue Jun 26, 2012 4:50 pm

Please Help me if you have solution.

One of my friend tried to install free edition of Hauptwer.
However Installer said

" Installer User Interface Mode Not Supported
Unable to load and to prepare the installtion in GUI mode "

He changed the Desktop property and 16, 24 or 32-bit color depth,
however situation was not changed.

His PC is

Lenovo G41
OS WINDOWS XP SP3
CPU Penium 4 3.0 GHz
Memory 2 GB
HDD 250GB (Remaining 70GB)

I understood his computer spec is quit marginal.

Need your help.

I got this kind of message several times on an old thinkpad. I turned out the screen was not large enough up and down to hold th whole screen demanded by the installer program. Could this be the case?

Hello Akihiko,

A Pentium 4 running 32-bit XP SP3 should be ok in theory. (I'm not sure what the absolute minimum screen resolution the installer can handle is, but I expect it can manage 800x600, so I doubt that's the problem. 1024x768 should definitely be sufficient.)

As background: the installer-authoring application that we use for Hauptwerk's installer uses Java, and during installation the installer will save temporary files and shortcuts relative to where the Windows temporary folder and Windows user account's home folder/desktop reside on the hard-drive.

I fond this this page on the Internet (for another application that uses the same installer-authoring software that we do for Hauptwerk), which suggests that the error can arise if the Windows username and/or Windows temporary folder (which might be within the Windows account's home folder, and thus be dependent on the Windows username anyway) contain 'unusual' characters:

http://www.maplesoft.com/support/faqs/detail.aspx?sid=32607

I'm not sure exactly what counts as an 'unusual' character (i.e. what character sets Java and/or the installer software can handle properly), but my guess is that it's likely to be the issue in this case, since I understand you're from Japan. Perhaps it can't handle Japanese characters in the Windows account name properly.

Please ask your friend to try installing Hauptwerk under a different Windows account that uses just ANSI (American) characters in it and that has Windows administrator privileges, for good measure. E.g. create a new Windows user account named something like 'Hauptwerk', assigning it administrator privileges, then log in using that account and install (and subsequently use) Hauptwerk under that new account.

If that doesn't solve it, please also try changing the TEMP and TMP Windows environment variables to point to a folder that has only ANSI characters in its name/path.

Hopefully that will fix it.
Best regards, Martin.

I would like to say thank you to polikimre, oliver_mayes, mdyde.
( in the order of posting)

I would like to report you for my friend's result of installation of free edition
of Hauptwerk. My friend changed his computer of the video resolution and number of
color. However his unable installation of free edition of hauptwerk was not changed.
And the user name of his XP O/S consists ASCII character from the begining.
Due to limited time, he gave up to install the free edition of Hauptwerk to
Lenovo PC.

Fortunately My friend has another SONY Note PC, and has successfully done for installation.

SONY:VAIO P
OS: WINDOWS 7 SP1
CPU: ATOM Z560:2.13G
Memory :2GB(at Ready Boost 4GB?)
SSD:250GB(free area 160G)

Even installation to ATOM CPU PC may be remarkable. We may be able make vey small size of
Hauptwerk Organ.

I think He will buy advanced edition of Hauptwerk very near future.

Thank you very much to ALL.
