Swell Pedal setting

PostWed Sep 30, 2009 2:56 am

I have been playing hauptwerk organs for the past six months. Now I have gone up to Hauptwerk Free Edition. I hope to move up to Hauptwerk Basic. However, before I do I want to resolve some problems I am having. I have a Technics GA3 organ that I am using for Hauptwerk. I have the swell pedal on my Technics set to midi channel 15. I cannot get the swell pedal set right even though I set it at 15 in Hauptwerk. I now sure I am using the right seting. Can anyone help me with this.

Hi Charles,

I'd suggest looking at this post: http://forum.hauptwerk.com/viewtopic.php?t=3052

I found that using the FAQ on the website http://www.hauptwerk.com/index.php?src=faq&category=Technical#12 which in turn pointed to this post http://forum.hauptwerk.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3170 containing a list of handy posts on the subject of stop and expression pedal configurations.

This wouldn't be the old chestnut of your keyboard's naming MIDI channels as 0 - 15, whereas Hauptwerk calls them 1 - 16 ?

Hello Charles.

Sorry to hear about your difficulty in setting up your Technics organ with Hauptwerk. I have a Technics SX-EA1 (smaller than yours I suspect). I used my Technics to drive Hauptwerk Basic edition from May 2008 until the beginning of June this year, when I finally finished my self-built 3 manual + 30 note pedal organ console (see my posts on the subject in the Hauptwerk Instruments topic).

I was able to use all the facilities of the Technics to control Hauptwerk (2-manuals + pedals of course, plus the Upper & Lower manual and Pedal organ voice selectors to control either stops or combinations, and the expression pedal to control a crescendo or sell pedal or both at the same time.

You can always use MIDI-OX to pick up all the Technics MIDI data, but in case you are still having problems, I give my settings below:

General Settings
MIDI Input paths
Keyboard Div 1: Pedals MIDI channel 3
Keyboard Div 2: Great MIDI channel 2
Keyboard Div 3: Swell MIDI channel 1
Stops & couplers Div 1 Pedal MIDI channel 10
Stops & couplers Div 2 Great MIDI channel 8
Stops & couplers Div 3 Swell MIDI channel 9
General & util pistons MIDI channel 15

MIDI Inputs
MIDI Manual 1: Great 61 keys from 24
MIDI Manual 2: Swell 61 keys from 36
MIDI Pedalboard 61 pedals from 36

Crescendos General
General & util pistons Controller 11 Crescendos General
Swells General
General & util pistons Controller 15 Enclosures General

Switch MIDI inputs
Comb piston Pedal 01-10 Div combs Man 2 01-10 Keyboards Div 1 Pedals
Div 2 Great 01-10 Div combs Man 1 01-10 Keyboards Div 2 Great
Div 3 Swell 01-10 Pedal Div combs 01-10 Keyboards Div 3 Swell

You can see full details of my project on my music website (see below).

I hope that helps!
