To Upgrade Or Wait?

PostSun Apr 17, 2011 12:59 pm

Hi Team,

I'm and organist and have been following Hauptwerk since it began all those years ago in the UK and have completely forgotten about it for the last few years. Anyway, downloaded it a few days ago and I'm hooked. I intend to buy or build a console and obviously buy the software.

First question (of many I'm sure!) Should I buy V.3 now or wait to buy V.4 or will is it a free upgrade?

Looking forward to getting involved!

Alex
P.S Is anyone selling manuals/pedals/anything in the UK?

If you buy now, the upgrade to HW4 will be free.

One vendor of kit in the UK is the forum member DHM. I got all my stuff off eBay, though.

Hello Alex,

Thanks for your continued interest in Hauptwerk.

We are still offering free upgrades to version 4 to those who place an order for version 3. So you will not lose out if you order now.

I hope that helps.

Thank you.

It's a slippery slope, Alex!

I'd definitely recommend building your own console, unless your woodworking skills are as awful as mine - my console's functional but ugly; I think this year's project is to rebuild it properly. The hardest part is sourcing a pedalboard - try contacting your local organ builder and see if they've got any old ones they'd considering selling off. I got mine for £30.

Thanks for the heads up 'ajt'!

I'm sort of tempted to convince the university I'm at to install a huge CMW organ in the central hall and convince them its good investment.

I'm a fairly terrible woodworker but at least the console will be a labour of love! In the meantime I'm tempted to order up 3 Behringer UMX610s.. Hadn't even thought about pedaboards yet!

Up at York. Sadly they're not all too wild about students practicing on the minster organ!

It's probably worth having a chat with Robert (Sharpe) - he's a good guy, used to let me on the Lichfield organ regularly. Usually cathedrals don't mind a bit of practice provided it's quiet and not complete beginner.
