length of a wav file

Sampling pipe organs and turning them into something you can play in Hauptwerk.

length of a wav file

PostTue Jun 27, 2006 1:57 am

I would like to know whether it is possible to cut the Wav file before the Loop to save memory and what would be the optimum minimum length of a file

Hi,
I am afraid that is not possible, HW requires AT LEAST one loop to be present in the wav-file for non-percussive samples (obviously without that it would not be possible to play sustained notes).

Best regards

Also I believe that it is not advisable to cut part of the wave out between the loop end and the release marker(s), which is pointless anyway since HW2 will not waste memory on that part of the sample anyway.

but I want to cut the part before the loop (1 -2 seconds). It's possible?

There is specialist software which can do perfect crossfading in the middle of a wave file so there is no "click" but I forgot the name of it.

It _might_ be possible if you basically find a perfect "loop" before the loop in the sample and then cut that out, otherwise you will definitely here some click or other noise when you play back the sample. So the task would not be trivial, but in principle can be done with a good wave-editor and perhaps loop finding software. The reason you need to cut out a perfect loop rather than just any portion of the file is that the phasses of all harmonics must match at the beginning and end of the cut.

I doubt that the result will be really musically satisfactory though, since you loose a lot of the liveliness of the samples that way (especially if the loops are short to begin with).

Hope this helps
