Takeover

PostMon Jun 10, 2013 9:41 am

Saturday morning I was unable to play any track on CBCH, downloading one launched an unknown application:
Image
which appeared to play it, but there was no sound. Reading html code or right-clicking on so-called player yielded no info. Streaming from some radio stations (not KUSC, fortunately) no longer worked. Checking for new plugins in Firefox did not reveal any. Since moving to the new convalescent home in El Monte, I decided not to have a radio or telephone, accessing these from my computer instead, so it's a little disappointing.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Maybe "Cloud Computing" has taken over? Nah, can't be. But there are several observed strange "things" happening these days. :o

I have 1 Russian spam harvester and 7 Beijing China that visit Virtually Baroque way too often. I'd like to think they like organ music, but really doubt that.

That's one thing. I get daily spams from all different web addresses from a Canadian Co selling Viagra among other stuff. AOL says they have no way to stop them. I use Block Mail and other spam blockers, but each day a new "crop" appears.

I'm with Bell's sympatico system here in Ontario for email. I've had no spam except for one "secret Shopper" offer and and one phishing email in the last few month. I've long ago given up having to use any extra software to filter.

By happy, Rob. AOL is an open (phishing and worse) hatchery for spammers and other such nastys. I'm not alone. Maybe I should move away, at least from my current Internet provider? :x

If the Federal Government can spy on you, and Google can target ads by your captured keystrokes, and the Chinese steal airliner plans and the DOD keeps saying the next war will be a cyberwar, what level of security is there really.

Let's counter with 32' pipes at 50" of wind in the same manner as was done at the Chicago Stadium TPO. :o :

Thinking of Al Melgard playing 'I ain't got no body' which could easily be heard outside even above traffic noise.

Sorry to repeat but that was a good one!

I say the purpetrators are first flogged with a Crumhorn, then locked in a room and subjected to a couple hours of plein jeu or mixture stops only. That ought to fix em!

Thank you for your humorous diversions. The solution was to restore Windows to an earlier state.

James,
Now that you have a clean install of Windows, I would suggest that you install a virus/malware detection and removal utility. There are many available, some even free such as this one from Microsoft http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q= ... 5248,d.cGE

Do an initial thorough scan and set it up a schedule for it to scan regularly.

I had a good friend send me an email on my Android Phone yesterday that had a malware attachment. (Her computer had been infected) Fortunately, I aborted the download and launched Norton, it was detected and removed.
