NEW - Contrebombarde.com Upgrades

PostTue May 17, 2011 11:35 am

It's been a while since we did much work on the Contrebombarde.com site. It has grown beyond a hobby to look after which has caused some challenges to regular upgrades.

We are, however, pleased to announce some great new changes to the site. More are coming soon that I think you'll be fired up about as well.

Thanks for using the site and devoting your time to making it what it is.

    Improved uploader and upload workflow
Upload the midi file and/or a txt file of your registrations.
Add YouTube embed to music page
New HTML5 iOS compatible player (for now on the music page only)

PS: Hint, hint; maybe one of you really terrific theatre organ players might just upload a midi file for one of those beautiful renditions of yours so I could try it on my multiple speaker set-up. . . . . :)

Kudos on the upgrades.

The new player is great for us iPad users.

Thanks for making it available... Looking forward to instructions on embedding YouTube videos.

Also I see you say HTML 5 on the music page for now, does that mean it will be coming to the main browse pages possibly in the future?

Again thank you for the upgrades and for just making the site available.

Another Upgrade implemented today!

Now you can upload Hauptwerk 16-bit WAV files directly into the uploader. Contrebombarde will automatically convert the file to mp3 and add in the ID3 tags that allow any audio player to display the song title when the mp3 is playing (missing ID3 tags were the reason not everyone's mp3 titles would show up in the site player)

The file will be a VBR2 file with sample rates between 170 and 210.

This will make it easier for people who don't know how to convert their Hauptwerk recordings to mp3 to participate at Contrebombarde.com

Have a great Victoria Day long weekend if you're in Canada.

Cheers,

Darryl

Hi Darryl,

Not sure if this has been reported yet but it seems the upload function is currently broken. When I try to upload I'm told that the "Upload To" field is required, however this field is not visible. Looking at the page source I can see it has been commented out.

Hi

I had this upload problem last night with Safari, but it worked fine with Firefox (Mac OS snow leopard). Also having playback problems now with Safari - and not Firefox!

I'm not able to reproduce any issues with Safari. I'm using Safari 5.05 on Snow Leopard (10.6). Chris, if it's giving you a message that upload_to is required, then it sounds like Javascript is either broken or disabled. The form submission is done using a Javascript AJAX request as opposed to a standard HTTP request. If Javascript is broken and the broken and the browser reverts to HTTP, then you would get this error. Is anyone else able to reproduce this problem? Please note that when you go to upload you should see a grey button with white text that says "SELECT FILE". If you don't see this, then Javascript is broken or disabled.

Is anyone else having playback issues? Which pieces of music?

Hi Rob

I was having the exact same upload problem, only with safari. The Java on the rest of the page seems to work fine. Only on pressing the upload button did the "Upload to" Field missing error appear. The status bars for the upload files etc all appeared.

As for playback - again only in safari, for all tracks when you press the "play" button, the status play bar turns orange, but no music plays. If you then click inside the bar, music will start to play from the point you clicked at.

I have not been aware of any other issues on other sites (so far!)

I am running Safari 5.0.5. I have just check on the Apple software update server and everything is up to date. It wouldn't be the first time that a very quick revision has been issued after odd behaviour in a browser however.

Iain, I'm wondering if perhaps you have some old code cached. Next time you're uploading or playing music, try doing a cache refresh. Ctrl + Shift + R or Shift + click on refresh.
