Elegy on "America"

PostWed Aug 17, 2011 11:08 pm

In case anyone is in need of music for a 9/11, Veteran's Day or Memorial Day celebration, I found a copy of an Elegy I composed for the one-year anniversary of 9/11 and have just published it on Lulu.com in hopes that it is still time for some to make use of it for this 9/11. It is one of my easier hymn-tune preludes, so I hope some of you can use it.
You can listen to an is an MP3 of it here:

The music can be purchased for snail-mail delivery of actual sheet music or for download at:

Thanks for getting an early start on Patriot's Day, which falls on a Sunday this year, the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

Fortunately, all I have to worry about are my Weekly and Daily Lists. Choosing music for this day will not be easy for those serving churches. If you're up to it there's Charles Ives famous Variations on America. Biggs used to play this very much faster, and it came off as a little angry and even irreverent.

And I have even played the Dudley Buck (at First Congregational, Los Angeles for a noon concert):
