question about Behringer FC1010 integration

PostThu Dec 01, 2016 7:04 am

Hello all,

On my website (http://wf.mellink.info/en/mellink-uk/ma ... -hauptwerk) you can see my own-built organ. I use three USB-MIDI keyboards and a MIDIfied pedalboard and these are via a 4-port powered USB-hub connected to my PC. Currently I have configured the Pitchbend wheel of the lowest keyboard as Swell pedal. Now I am thinking to add a real Swell-pedal, but normal volume pedals are analog with jackplug to connect to a keyboard. Thus I am thinking about the Behringer FC1010. To connect it ijn the same way, I would need another MIDI-to-USB cable and replace the hub for a larger one or add another one. As extern Audio Interface I have the Roland OctaCapture audiointerface, which also has MIDI-in and MIDI-out.

What is the best/right solution? Who has good ideas? Thanks for feedback.

Kind regards, Fred

Two things you may need to check are whether the Behringer pedal moves through a large enough arc to give adequate control, and whether you will be able to mount it at a comfortable angle. I've no experience of these pedals myself, but have seen the issue raised on the forum. There are of course swell pedals from various specialist suppliers of Hauptwerk accessories, and ways to MIDI-fy an analog pedal.

Hello Fred,

[Topic moved here, since it isn't a technical support issue with the Hauptwerk software per-se.]

I have no first-hand experience with the Behringer FC1010 myself, although I recall that some other Hauptwerk users have used it, and discussed it previously on the forum. Looking at the specifications for the FC1010, it has a real MIDI OUT port, so if you aren't using the MIDI IN port on your Roland audio interface then the simplest option for connecting it would probably be just to connect it to that (thus avoiding the need to buy any additional USB-MIDI adapters or USB hubs).
Best regards, Martin.

Hello Fred,
I own a FCB and had no problems integrating it into my set-up. (connections and range)

The issue to evaluate carefully is the construction of the swells: they move at the slightest touch, therefore are difficult to fix in the desired position and have only about 2 3rds of the broadness of a real organ swells.

IMO they are not more than a not very satisfactory replacement.

Rgds,
