Behringer FCA 610 - audio driver fails to load.

PostWed Sep 06, 2017 12:21 pm

I would like to hear from anyone who has had a problem with this device where the sample-set loads to 100% and then defaults to the HW screen rather than displaying the virtual console. If I load the organ again, it almost always loads correctly at the 2nd attempt. But this is no good whatsoever if the console is running in "headless" mode, and still very annoying even in a home-use situation. I currently have 5 units here which I can't use (mostly returned by customers).

I have downloaded the latest USB and FireWire drivers from Behringer's website, and it makes no difference whether I use it on Windows 7 or 10, on FireWire or USB.

I have contacted Behringer's UK support people, who initially appeared concerned and helpful, but haven't been. I have sent them HW activity logs and screenshots of error messages. Anyone else who wants to see these can look here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5nrf82ctwiqfr ... s.doc?dl=0.

Having worked with Hauptwerk for nearly 12 years now, using a range of other interfaces including M-Audio Audiophile 2496, Delta 1010LT, Profire 610 and FastTrack C600, Focusrite Saffire LE and Saffire Pro 24, and MOTU Ultralite Hybrid Mk3, I have never encountered this problem on any interface other than the FCA610.

We need to get Behringer to fix this, as it is obviously a Behringer problem and not a Hauptwerk one.
Can anyone in the US/Canada put me in touch with support people over there? I find they are usually much more helpful than European-based ones. Names & phone numbers would be even better.

Additionally I would suggest that anyone else experiencing the same problem should e-mail Patrick Karvounis (Senior Specialist, Care) on carecrea@music-group.com quoting

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Douglas,

The audio driver is loading but when it goes to switch the sample rate from 44.1kHz to 48kHZ or vice versa, some defect in either the driver or the OS is stopping the process.

If you go to Engine>Advanced>Start Audio/MIDI you will find it unchecked. Check it and it will bring up the sample set console and begin working. Behringer says the EOL on the FCA610 does not warrant changing the driver.

My solution is to not use 44.1kHz organs and to load the 48kHz St. Anne's version

Hope that helps,

Thomas

Hi Douglas,

I sent you a PM on this but wanted to share my thoughts on the forum. As Thomas stated above this problem is caused by loading organs with a different sample rate. Loading the organ a second time fixes the problem but is beyond annoying. Using the Engine>Advanced>Start Audio/MIDI or Engine>Reset Audio/MIDI is a much quicker way around the problem.

Many users will find this issue acceptable either never using samples with different rates or using the reset option the few times they do. I don't expect Behringer to fix the problem as most users would never switch sample rates.

The FCA610 still offers a good value in channels compared to price. But users looking for a value interface may want to consider the U-Phoria line. The U-Phoria does not have this problem. Here is a price per analog channel comparison.

UMC404HD 4 channel $99
FCA610 8 channel $199
UMC1820 10 channel $299

I hope future budget audio interface users find the info helpful.

Thanks, Matt. Problem now identified and solved (thanks to you and Thomas).
For "mission-critical" installations we will be sure to use only 48kHz sample-sets.
And I can now use the five units I thought were wasted. :D

(And I responded to your PM, thanks.)
