Launchpad (1) and Legacy OS/HW 4.00

PostWed Jan 31, 2018 6:51 am

Is there a way to use a Launchpad on Hauptwerk running Mac OS 10.6.8? The Mac Mini (1.83 Intel Core Duo) in question can't be upgraded to run 10.7 or higher, but can run HW 4.0.0.724
However, as far as I can see native HW support for Launchpads was added in HW 4.1, which requires 10.7 or higher.
If I'm not mistaken, I do recall a beta that allowed Launchpad support in 4.00...?

Thanks

What would be the objection to upgrade to the most recent version of Hauptwerk? It is free, easy, and (as far as I know) fully compatible with all your existing settings.

Hello David,

The current version of Hauptwerk (v4.2.1) isn't officially tested or supported on OS X 10.6.8, but we understand from plenty of people that it does work perfectly on it anyway. Hence please just use Hauptwerk v4.2.1, which does have full native support for the original Launchpad models. (We will support Hauptwerk on OS platforms that are no longer officially tested/supported for any issues provided that they don't appear to be due to the platform.)

(We definitely don't support older versions of Hauptwerk, and any betas that we might have sent were only for temporary and confidential testing, pending the completion of the public releases, so please delete any of those that you might still have.)
Best regards, Martin.

Super, thanks, Martin, will give it a try... (thought it wouldn't work so hadn't tried!)

Hello David,

Recent versions of Hauptwerk for Mac are 64-bit only.

Is your Mac 64-bit capable?:

https://everymac.com/mac-answers/snow-leopard-mac-os-x-faq/mac-os-x-snow-leopard-64-bit-macs-64-bit-efi-boot-in-64-bit-mode.html

If it is, you might need to tell OS X to boot in 64-bit mode, since I recall old versions of OS X used to boot as 32-bit by default. (However, I thought that no longer applied with OS X 10.6.8.)
Best regards, Martin.

32 bit only I’m afraid on this particular machine (which is a small second install that I use occasionally. My main system is fully up to date.)

Thanks, David.

In that case, you're out of luck for that particular 32-bit Mac (from 2006), I'm afraid. All versions of Hauptwerk since v4.1.0 have been 64-bit only on the Mac platform. You definitely would need to replace it with a newer computer. Sorry!

I have actually managed to get the Launchpad working with 4.0.0 as a stop control device but without the lights working which for the particular purposes I’m using it will be just about OK.

Thanks again, Martin.
