Trick to use some pistons in Viscount organs

PostThu Mar 01, 2018 7:56 am

I have found a way to get HW to recognize some pistons in the Viscount organs, specifically with the Vivace series. I don´t know if it will work with other models as Prestige, Unico, etc.
This metode is alternative to sending PG messages assigned to General pistons.
The trick is to use the volume of the tremulant by assigning it to different program selection pistons GENERAL (1-6) and NEXT. The activated Tremulant in the Viscount console doesn´t affect the final sound.
The example I describe is for a Vivace 90.
First you must configure in the V90:
-MENU-MIDI-TX / RX FILTERS-SYS-EX (NO/YES)
-MENU-SET UP-FUNCTION STORED-TREMULANT DEPTH AND SPEED (YES) / COUPLERS (YES)
-MENU-SET UP-PISTONS SETTING-PREV/NEXT PISTONS ACTION (GENERAL MEMORY)

I use the last Bank (8) because the first 7 banks are used with Viscount stops. But you can use other one or more.
-BANK 8: Store in all 6 GENERAL PROGRAMS: (S + GP 1-6) only!
        * GEN PROG 1-6 (TREM I + TREM II + TREM III + MIDI I + MIDI II + MIDI III + MIDI P)

And set the tremulants changing the volume of the Trem of MANUAL I (x) from 3 to 8 in gen. memories 1 to 6.
-MENU-SET UP-TREMULANT, saving the modified trem vol level in the corresponding GEN PROG memory.

(Depth /Speed)
TREMULANT MAN I : x /6
TREMULANT MAN II : 4 /6
TREMULANT MAN III : 4 /6

Now you have to go into the HW MIDI Set-up:

-Go into "Organ settings/ MIDI Key triggers for master pistons and ...."
-Primary Input
-Select to configure the first "Registration stepper: Trigger XX1)
-Input: Generic MIDI Sys-ex constant message
-Momentary piston
-Select your MIDI device
-Assign different generic MIDI Sys-ex constant messages to each of other Reg St Trigger 1 to 6.

-Registration Stepper: Trigger XX1 to XX6
(F0 31 22 5C 0x F7) for x (3 -8)
-Registration stepper: Trigger +1
(F0 31 22 5A 06 F7)
-General cancel (C):
(F0 31 2F 6C 00 F7)
-Bank (Y) selection: (F0 31 2F 69 0Y F7)

Save and test it.

Now you can, in HW, assign and store 6 different stop combinations to the Stepper in all the (99X) cued decade or hundred. You can do a direct sellection of the 6 first combinations, or go to the next comb pressing "NEXT" in the Viscount console.

You can extend this trick using different tremulants depth-speed values stored in the other pistons.

Try and enjoy.
